Glory Hole Fishing Report

New Melones Reservoir - Angels Camp, CA

by Glory Hole Sports

New Melones currently holding steady at lake elevation 1054.32, and 33.68 from full. Water temperature is 68 - 71 degrees. California Bass Federation is holding their last tournament of the season on New Melone, October 13 & 14, with awards being handed out at Glory Hole Sports Saturday, 3:30 pm.

For those of you who missed it, here is a pix of Ken Hopper of Sonora with Rainbow Trout Lake Record of 8 lbs 4 oz. for New Melones. With that grin, I think he knew he had a record in his paws.

That being said, Glory Hole Sports has been collecting weights of fish that pass thru our store for decades and will keep records of what we have personally weighed and recorded. Has there been larger trout or bass that has been caught that weighed more than what has crossed our paths to be weighed by us?? Probably, but if they are not documented here at the store than we cannot verify. So the fish we list on our website and in the store as New Melones lake records are the ones that are weighed here and photographed.

Jimmy Haughy of Sonora did an all nighter on the lake, reeling in this nice 3 oz. cat using frozen shad. He reported fishing Bear Creek arm in 30 ft. of water.

Bass anglers have been having mixed results this week, fishing spinner baits, top water baits, and jigs. We have reports of 30-50 bass being caught in a outing, most fish brought on board average 12"and 2.5-3.5 lbs . The swimbait action could be ramping up soon as the water is beginning to cool, promoting a more responsive action from the bucketmouths.

Dave Ferguson of Angels Camp has been hammering the Crappie on a boat in the marina using pearl and red crappie jigs, dropping his line down 35-40 ft. deep.
