What an incredible fishery Melones has become. This seasons Kokanee fishing has the potential of being the best year ever for numbers plus size. Not only are we catching limits of 15 to 16 1/2 Koks, Dale Weston of San Jose, Fred Eberle of San Jose, Galen Young of Los Banos and Bruce Barron of Sonora all caught Kokanee over 2 lbs. And if that wasn't enough were catching an occasional rainbows in the 2 to 3 lbs class on Kokanee rigs. However limits don't come easy. The big aggressive Kokanee has caught most of my clients off guard. There landing about 1 out of 3 fish they've hooked up. Glory Hole point, spillway, Tuttle Town ramp, south island and Big Bay are all holding fish 40 to 65 feet deep. Beware of the submerged islands in Big Bay, they can cause problems for downrigger fisherman. Uncle Larry's copper blue pink, pink Glitter Bugs, pink R&K Hoochies and Crystal Basin glow pink all behind Vance's nickel and nickel green dodgers. We are using Pro Cure Garlic Plus, Carp spit, fresh water shrimp and hot pink anis with there new UV Flash additive in our corn.
