GENERAL CONDITIONS

Fishing has been slow, with a few undersized striped bass being caught at Eckley Pier. The water condition is ideal for sturgeon, but only a few undersized have been caught and released at both Eckley and Martinez. The rain was a deterrent to many fishermen; only those willing to brave the extreme weather set up tents and parkas but also came up empty handed.

On a side note, a lot more newcomers are setting up crab traps at Eckley Pier. Please be aware that catching Dungeness crab at Eckley Pier is prohibited. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife can and will cite fishermen that are targeting Dungeness crab: 29.85. CRABS. (a) Dungeness crabs (Cancer magister): (1) Closure: Dungeness crab may not be taken from or possessed if taken from San Francisco Bay and San Pablo Bay, plus all their tidal bays, sloughs and estuaries between the Golden Gate Bridge and Carquinez Bridge.
