Last weeks temperatures for the Trinity Valley were 47/29 with 0.3 inches of?Įrain. Next weeks forecast is for 52/35 degree. The first part of the week it?Įwas freezing in the mornings and wouldn't thaw out until noon or later then?Įwe began to have scattered showers. According to NOAA we will be seeing?Įscattered showers with rain the rest of the week and possibly into the next?Įweekend. It was cold and many of the fishermen decided to give it up and go?Įhome for warmer weather, which I don't blame them as I stayed in the house?Įuntil I had to go out and not a moment sooner. Maybe the rain will bring?Įsome change to the river. The Trinity is clear from top to bottom. Even the?ĮSouth Fork is clear.

I finally got the Trinity River Hatchery report and a summary of the Willow?Įcreek weir count. Fall run Chinook shows 1,021 with some stragglers still?Įcoming in. Coho count was 97 with 79 being hatchery fish. Steelhead count as?Įof Oct 28 was 4,899 with 4,233 being hatchery. Now you must remember that?Įthe Coho and Steelhead counts are not complete as we are still getting fresh?Įfish coming into the system. In fact we have yet to see very many winter run?ĮSteelhead. The TRH has counted 8,480 Fall Chinook for a total of 14,514?ĮChinook Salmon returning to the hatchery. This means that we have received?Įenough Chinook at the hatchery to meet the necessary egg quota for next?Įyears releases. As of Nov. 25 the hatchery has received 1,366 Coho Salmon,?Įwhich is way short of last years return but could possibly see a few more if?Įwe get some more rain. The hatchery could possibly see some more Coho but?Įthey normally are through going into the hatchery by Thanksgiving. The?ĮSteelhead count is down from last year but again there could be more to come?Įinto the hatchery if this storm brings in more fish. At the present the?Įhatchery has only received 462 Steelhead but the WC weir counted 4,899Ad?Įclipped fish before they removed the weir. You may ask what does that mean?Įto fishing? Well if you just go by the numbers it shows that there is still?Į4,437 hatchery fish in the river. BUT that has to be tempered with the?Įfactor that the weir only counts 5-10% of the fish so in theory you could?Įsay there is about 44,000 Steelhead in the river.

For the upper part of the trinity fishing has been hard in the Junction City?Įdown to Cedar Flat area but has been starting to get hot above Douglas City.?ĮI know the fishing pressure has increased in the Old Lewiston Bridge to?ĮDouglas City area and they are seeing good results with as many as 10 fish?Įto the boat. The main problem is that the water is "gin clear" up there and?Įyou have to go to lighter leaders, which translates into more break offs and?Įlost fish.

The Lower Trinity is just coming into good fishing condition but we have yet?Įto see very many Winter Run Steeleis coming into the river. I feel it is?Įstill a little early and that the forth coming storm and rain will start?Įthem up the river. Well that is the theory any way. Time will tell if I am?Įright.

The Upper Klamath is slowly clearing some but the fishing for Salmon is?Įpicking up. The Iron Gate Hatchery ahs met it's quota for Salmon and eggs so?Įfishing is open from the hatchery down to I-5. Down in Happy Camp to Ti?ĮBar/Somes Bar fishing for Steelhead has really picked up. Roe seems to be?Įdoing the best but hardware throwers are doing just fine with plenty of good?Įsolid hookups. The water around Orleans Weitchpec is still a little high but?Įfishable. On down river around Johnson the water is clearing with visibility?Įabout 6-8ft. Down in this area the water quality is much better because of?Įthe influence of the the clear water from the Trinity and several other cold?Įclear tributaries. Until next time ------
