Nor Cal Fish Reports
A hot, smoky week is getting a much-needed dose of cool, weather, rain and relief. That is just what the salmon ordered and the results already are showing. Salmon bite remains good on the lower Klamath, but is now worthwhile on the Sacramento from Princeton on up to Red Bluff. Bodega Bay salmon are biting as well as salmon off the San Mateo County Coast. There are salmon marauding in the Pillar Point Harbor, offering shore anglers a shot at kings. But there is more than salmon worth chasing. Find out more in this week’s Best Bites:
LEWISTON LAKE trout: Power Egg/salmon egg combos on a two-foot leader are accounting for a lot of trout limits at the Marina and north of the Marina. Trolling is good with Little Cleos behind a flasher. Lake is clearing and the flow is minor. Pine Cove Marina (530) 778-3878
LOWER KLAMATH salmon: Salmon quota this week was reached at the mouth of the Klamath, closing the spit. Estuary remains open. Fishing is good on the lower Klamath and this dose of rain should provide a boost. Mike Coopman (707) 465-1367; Mike Stratman (707) 601- 8757
SACRAMENTO RIVER(Lower) trout: Lots of large trout are being caught. Numbers are decent. Upper river from Redding to Anderson is producing 16 to 23 inch native rainbows. The Fly Shop (530) 222-3555
SACRAMENTO RIVER (Chico to Los Molinos) salmon: Salmon fishing has been good lately.some days there are limits, others not. But there is action daily. Water temperatures have been 57 to 63 degrees. There have been salmon caught from Princeton to the Barge Hole. Rain this week may give it a boost. Scott Feist (530) 923-2634, ScottFeist@FeistyFish.net
SAN MATEO COAST salmon: Salmon are in the Pillar Point breakwater and large spinners are getting bites. Anchovies are in the harbor, too. Beware, there are a pair of sea lions gorging in the harbor so if you hook up, reel quickly. Salmon are thick off Linda Mar. Striper bite continues at Ocean Beach. There are a lot fishing on the north side of Linda Mar. (650) 355-8303, New Coastside (650) 359-9790
BODEGA BAY salmon: Party boats have been getting limits of salmon to 21 pounds the last two days. New Sea Angler. (707) 875-3344
CENTRAL COAST rockfish: Monterey and Morro Bay boats get regular limits. Chris’ Sportfishing in Monterey is using live sand dabs for bait. Morro Bay party boats are getting bonito.
