This week’s big fish honor board has a lot of entrants. Large trout are being planted during the early season because there may not be much water left by the end of the season. Now is the time to hit the water and have a reasonable chance at a lunker fish.
Here are the recent top catches reported to NorCal.FishReports.com:
LOS VAQUEROS
Larry Ness of Fremont caught a 9.6 pounder with shad in South Cove.
Dave Sierra of Livermore hooked a 9.23 pounder with Power Bait at Oak Point.
Javier Marin of Sunnyvale caught a 9.94 pound catfish with anchovies from the Marina Pier.
Dee Fujita of Fremont used Mice Tails in South Cove to land an 8.79 pound trout.
PYRAMID LAKE
Bill Korte caught the big fish of the week, a 20.64 pound cutthroat while fly fishing from shore at Wino.
QUARRY LAKES
Leo Madrigal of San Jose caught a 10.3 pound trout with white Power Eggs near the swim beach.
SHAVER LAKE
Robert Creamer of Fresno caught-and-released a 14 pound rainbow.
Aaron Alvin of San Mateo hooked an 8.11 pound trout.
Jose Barrera of Corcoran nailed a 7.78 pounder from his boat near Black Rock.
Gary Kochera of Clovis also was fishing near Black Rock when he netted a 7.10 pound trout.
SAN PABLO RESERVOIR
Cristian Scailat of Hercules wrestled in a 10.2 pound trout that took Power Bait in Scow Canyon.
Minh Vu of San Francisco caught a 9.07 pound trout with nightcrawlers from the Oaks.
Marcus Peppers of Pacifica used Power Bait/nightcrawler to land an 8.95 pound trout between the Pines and the Tower.
Dan Bernert of Clayton caught a 7.98 pound catfish with nightcrawlers in Scow Canyon.
DEL VALLE
Jeff Bias of San Ramon landed the biggest fish of the week – an 11 pound trout caught with Power Bait in the Narrows.
Anthony Lopez of San Jose caught a 7 pound trout and two stripers from the narrows.
Mark Ortega of Daly City caught a 6.15 pound trout with a shad swim bait in the north narrows.
CONTRA LOMA
Jerry Moreno of Antioch had a 9.12 pound catfish with chicken liver
COLLINS LAKE
Biggest fish this week was a 14.12 pound catfish caught by Gabe and Tai of Alameda using Power Bait.
Croix Baio of Auburn trolled for a 13.8 pound rainbow.
Jim Hunsaker of Antelope caught a 10.8 pound trout with a Kastmaster in Elmer’s Cove
Carrie Deterding of Carmichael pulled in a 6 pound trout trolling with flashers and an Apex.
Nancy Stapp also had a 6 pound trout caught trolling with a Rapala.
Alan Anderson of Ukiah trolled a Wedding Ring Spinner and lured a 6 pound trout.
Morris Ball of Grass Valley trolled a Rapala near the bridge for a 6.12 pound trout
SAN PABLO/SAN FRANCISCO BAY
The Loch Lomond/Lord of the Sea Halibut and Striper Derby is being led by a 32.7 pound
halibut caught by Dominic Fontana at Paradise. Biggest striper so far is a 16 pounder by Dale Dubay of Santa Rosa. Derby goes into October. (415) 456-0321
