Nor Cal Fish Reports

It’s big fish season and the reason is more people are on more lakes, rivers and the sea than during the rest of the year. Conditions don’t seem ideal, but folks fish when they can fish. And that’s why so many big fish are caught during June and July. Here are the latest reports to the big fish list.

On the ocean, Mark Higgins of Fremont caught a 24 pound salmon from the New El Dorado III (Berkeley) while trolling off Rocky Point … Dennis Pham of Daly City caught a 21 pound king from the El Dorado (Berkeley) while trolling near the main ship channel.

The Eastern Sierra continued to produce quality trout.

Convict Lake was the top producer. Gerritt Wallace of El Cajon caught trout weighing 8.8 and 7.8 pounds using Power Worms near the Inlet … Aki Takeachi of Forest Hills took a 7.9 pound rainbow from the Inlet with nightcrawlers … Blake J. Hightower of Hesperia caught a 7.3 pound trout with salmon peach Power Bait offered from the south shore … Larean Cantrell of El Cajon caught a 6.15 pounder with garlic Power Bait from the handicap pier … Bill Rogers of Covina caught a 5.1 pound rainbow with a Mice Tail … Emerson Grimsby of Brea hooked a 5.7 pounder from the north shore … Eugene F. Gomez Sr. of San Gabriel caught a 6.2 pounder with Power Eggs at the inlet.

Lake Amador is producing the occasional trout despite the transition to warm water species . Anthony Albericci of Ione caught 9.8 pound rainbow with a crank bait in the Jackson Creek arm.

In the Bay Area, big cats were on tap at San Pablo Reservoir. David Ulloa caught a 12.9 pounder with chicken livers at the Berkeley Tower … An unnamed angler and friends from Fremont came to the lake twice. First time they caught 10 cats with the largest weighing 18 pounds and later in the week returned to catch a 22 pounder. Both big fish came from in Scow Canyon.
