Big lings, big halibut and big trout highlight this week’s Big Fish Honor Roll.

 

The North Coast produced a couple of big lings. Tom Wells of Crescent City caught a 40 pound ling from Big Reef and a 35 pounder was caught by an un-named angler on the Shellback out of Eureka.

A 34 pound halibut was caught in Capitola by Mark Davis, who was using a live mackerel in a skiff.

 

Back to fresh water, there was a good showing of big brown trout landed last week. Shannon Anderson of Lodi caught and released a massive brown trout at New Melones. She was fishing near the dam in 75 feet of water and the fish cleared the water twice during the battle. There was no scale but the trout was estimated to be around 10 pounds … Gina Decker trolled a flasher/nightcrawler at Bear River Lake for a 5.5 pound brown ... Michael Smith of Lago Vista, Tx., was vacationing at Silver Lake in the June Lake Loop and caught a 6.14 pound brown using nightcrawlers in Upper Rush Creek.

 

The East Carson River and Markleeville Creek in Alpine County have been producing big rainbows. A novice fly fisher named Stace highlighted her first venture with a 6.12 pound trout from Markleeville Creek using a Copper John … A visitor named Walter caught a 6.10 rainbow from the East Carson with a Mice Tail … Greg Parker caught a 6 pounder from the East Carson using salmon eggs … Aidan Pitts used salmon eggs to trick a 5 pounder in Markleeville Creek.

 

Convict Lake in the Eastern Sierra was unusually productive last week. Dennis Addington of Lomita caught a 7.3 pound rainbow using a lure … Jason Staehnke of San Diego caught a 7.2 pounder using a Gulp Garlic Pinched Crawler … John Flynn of Anaheim caught a 6.6 pound rainbow with a Thomas Bouyant from the north Shore … Dustin Marvin of Newbury Park used garlic Power Bait to get a 6.6 pound trout … Percy Facio of Anaheim caught a 6 pounder using nightcrawlers on the north shore … Dylan Legere of Costa Mesa nailed a 6.3 pounder using Power Bait on the south shore

 


The Bay Area lakes continue to give up lunkers. Big fish of the week at Shadow Cliffs was a 10 pound trout caught by Bernie Helwig who was anchored and using Power Bait.
The wind at Los Vaqueros kept many anglers away, but that didn’t stop Oscar Gallardo of San Jose from catching an 11.8 pound trout with a Kastmaster from South Cove … Biggest fish was a 13.42 pound cat hooked by Joe Juane of San Jose using anchovies from the Marina Dock … Seng Saele of San Leandro was using anchovies on the north side near the dam to catch a 10.7 pound catfish … Robert Vigil of Pleasant Hill caught an 8.04 pound trout using Power Bait is South Cove.

 


San Pablo Reservoir put out trophies last week. Danny Chao of Concord caught 10.9 and 7.11 pound trout using Power Bait from the shore at the Main Recreation Area … Bob Jones of South San Francisco caught an 8.8 pounder throwing a Kastmaster from the launch shoreline … Titus Saephan of El Cerrito used a nightcrawler at Sandy Beach to lure an 8.85 pound trout … John Rocco and his partner used Rapalas at Sandy Beach to catch trout weighing 8.58 and 6.62 pounds … Mike Weldon of Walnut Creek netted an 8.86 pound trout with Power Bait at the Main Rec … Biggest catfish was an 8.85 pounder caught by Jim Folan of Mill Valley in Scow Canyon with a nightcrawler/marshmallow combo.

 


Best bass reported last week was a 7.8 pounder caught at Lake Amador by Jay Vang of Sacramento who was using a Senko near the spillway.
