Starting off the new year myself and Mark Lassange fished the New Year’s Day teams tournament at lake Camanche I had been there 5 days before and the fish were stacked on south shore and shallow so we started on south shore on the chunkiest stuff we could find about an hour went buy and mark had caught only one short large mouth on the Keitech. I started to realize those fish were gone as I checked a few more spots that had held fish in weeks past with no success with the water temp dropping to barely 50 degree and slightly stained Mark suggested we go find some ledges with my knowledge of the lake I pulled the trolling motor and headed for the grave yard to fish the ledge that runs south, about 20 yards into it BOOM Mark puts our first keeper in the boat using a 1/2 oz Jackson Quon egg ball jig in watermelon black flk throwing it on an okuma 7.3 heavy action tcs rod and 8:1-1 Helios reel tipped with 12 pound line we started to get a few bites on one brush pile on the second ledge in 30 feet going back and fourth mark quickly caught two more nice fish so I quickly picked up the Dobyns 735 med hvy ex fast action with a River2Sea 1/2oz weighted tungsten on a Carolina rig topped with a watermelon candy brush hog with a 4/0 Daiichi wide gap hook as I started to drag the rig I was able to get our big fish and cull one so as the day went we culled a couple of more as the bite slowed we moved around to a few more points and ledges only catching some small spotted bass so we decided to go back to our large mouth spot and proceeded to catch a few more but not helping our limit. We ended up in fourth place so in all I had a great day on the water with my buddy and getting in tune for this up coming WWBT teams events and the CTT events.
