Cold and clear at Hat

Hat Creek - CA (Shasta County)

Water conditions are cold and clear. Fishing has been good. Anglers are doing best at the Power House #2 riffle, which is typical. Look for rising heads in the flats early and then near or just after sunset. Pay attention to fishing regs after sunset. Swinging leeches and streamers is a proven technique anytime on Hat Creek. The flat waters below the Power House Riffle can offer a chance to cast dry flies to rising fish. Get on this river early and then again late if you want to find the biggest fish. The fish here are haters of the sun. Lower Hat: Rim Rock Ranch (530) 335-7114; The Fly Shop (530) 222-3555; www.jacktrout.com, (530) 926-4540
