Hello all, here is the latest information on the status of the Convict Lake Campground that was given to me by Jon Kazmierski, our Recreation Office at the Mammoth Ranger Station:

DAY USE
Day use parking and picnic areas will be open for Fishing Opener.
CONVICT LAKE RESORT IS OPEN AND THE LAKE AND THE MARINA WILL BE OPEN FOR FISHING ON THE LAST SATURDAY OF APRIL (THE OPENER).

THE CAMPGROUND IS CURRENTLY CLOSED TO INSTALL NEW RESTROOMS

The contractor for the USFS began work last week on the installation of the new public restroom. To the best of my knowledge they were able to complete the demolition work. The next step will be the forming and installation of concrete foundations and the installation of the required electrical and plumbing. This will be followed with the delivery and installation of modular/prefabricated restrooms. At present there are no working restrooms and therefore THE CAMPGROUND IS NOW CLOSED UNTIL SUCH TIME AS THERE ARE WORKING RESTROOMS.

TIME-LINE FOR INSTALLATION AND RE-OPENING

The contractor will continue to work as long as weather permits. I have interpreted this to mean that if we get snowfall with normal to heavy accumulation they will cease work. They will also not pour concrete until the ambient air temperature is high enough to allow curing of the concrete. I do not have any information on how long it will take to put in the necessary electrical and plumbing and to form and pour concrete. It would be optimum if they could get this done in the next few weeks. If they cannot then I believe this could get delayed until April or May.

Once the sites are ready the contractor can install the restrooms. I am told that this would take about a month. I have also been told that the restrooms will not be ready for delivery any earlier than the first of April. Presumably if the sites are ready at that time the new restrooms could be installed by the end of April or early May.

If the sites are not ready by the first of April installation and completion will be delayed. THE USFS HAS INDICATED ON THE RECREATION. GOV SITE THAT THE CAMPGROUND WILL BE CLOSED UNTIL JUNE 6, 2012. They believe this date should be the latest date. Presumably the completion and opening could be earlier or depending on weather and other factors could be even later. We are in a wait and see mode.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Nearby campgrounds include Tom's place (Rock Creek, Dutch Flats), Browns on the other side of Crowley Lake or Mammoth RV in town.

CAMPGROUND MANAGEMENT
The campground concession at Convict Lake together with several other campgrounds in the area were put up for bid this past Fall. The USFS is in the process of making their final determination and should announce which company has been awarded the contract within the next few weeks.

Thank you all for your continued interest in visiting Convict Lake and hope you enjoyed the photo submitted by Chris Hansen.
