Chad,

Here's my "timely" report for the week.

The weather was very uncooperative in getting "trout" into the mood. But suddenly, as if in spurred by some unnamed source, they came alive today. Todd & Bev Tanaka of La Habra hit the right combination of flies to bring in 4 trophy fish ranging from 4 3/4 lbs to 5 3/4 lbs on Olive Matuka's, and Olive and Black wooly buggers from tubes on Little Virginia. Dennis Boorsman and family also did well, and was one of the men who saved my brother in law last September from hypothermia and/or dying after he fell overboard due to entanglement with the anchor line. We are eternally grateful to you and all those who assisted in his survival. I have a big brown with your name on it next year Dennis.

Also, Dave Poor of Riverside took a nice 5 lb 2oz bow on a crawler dipped in trout "stuff", and he was elated with his catch. Everyone else on the water caught fish up to 2 lbs and the skies cleared and the bears disappeared for a day.

Big Virginia did well on crawlers, lures and salmon eggs, but nothing really big, just your average 1 lb fish from DFG. The lakes have not been stocked since the end of September, but it didn't seem to affect the catching today. It had been slow, but whatever was in the air spurred the bite to excitement.

I've seen some strange activity over the years, but this last week has been nothing until today, it came in with sparklers, bangles and dynamite, and the bite was on.

Hopefully, it will continue for the next couple weeks until the season comes to a close, a very sad occasion in my life. If fishing is a religion, then fly fishing must be high church.....see you on the water.....carolyn

Virginia Lakes has continued to thrive among the best "spots" for catching during this fall color change. The...... Read More

The weather has finally cooled down and the bite has improved somewhat. DFG stocked some really nice size rainbows this past week, and I heard my first gun shot this morning so remember to take off your antlers while fishing the lakes. It's been breezy for about 3 days with a 30.9 7am temperature today. Little Virginia has been doing well on streamers at about 4-6 feet with most trout holding around 5 feet. Soft hackles, olive bird's...... Read More
