Talking with Captain Hector this morning, he said that the fishing has been great. Eighteen miles from the point on a 240 heading, limits of yellowfin tuna have been brought in weighing 25 to 40 lbs. If you can find a paddy in the same area, you can find some great yellowtail and dorado. Boats were heading south this morning head to Socorro in hopes of finding the elusive white seabass. Frank Ballard brought a group down from Rosarita and took the Calimar (Captain Pato) and Paloma (Captain Hector) out and scored on 11 yellowfin (11 on the Paloma and 10 on the Calimar).

I am in the U.S. now but I talk to one of my captains, Hector, daily. There have been no reports of rain or bad weather in San Quintin. The white seabass and yellowtail bite is still going strong. Large chrome chrocs seem to be the ticket. Wire leaders are recommended due to the log-type barracuda. The bite has been 2 to 3 log barracuda for each yellowtail or white seabass. This fish report is from Pete Hillis reporting out of Pedro's Pangas, San Quintin, Baja Mexico for the week ending September 4, 2008. The weather has been beautiful. Business has been picking up - we another 25 boats out this week. The wind was blowing slightly when I left San Quintin on Wednesday morning. In a phone call down to San Quintin today, the wind has completely died down. The white seabass bite has really picked up...... Read More
