Crowley Lake Fish Report

Crowley Lake - Mammoth Lakes, CA (Mono County)

There is an algae bloom in parts of the lake but it can be avoided by going to deep water. The best areas to troll are in 36 to 44-feet water and put the lures down 30-32 feet. The areas to try are McGee Bay from the 395 side all the way up to Sandy Point. Get out there early as the bloom gets worse as the sun stays on the water. Best lures been the Tasmanians in various frog and bright colors. It is a necessity to stop the junk from getting to the lures. For lures requiring a swivel put the swivel a rod length away from the lure with a glass bead or Carolina keeper above the swivel. For minnow type lures that do not req a swivel put a Carolina keeper a rod length away from the lure and check all the lures often. Other areas to try will be the Hiltons and the harbor area as the water sometimes stays cleaner up there. Quality of fish has been good with three to five pounders being caught regularly.

Flyfishers are getting fish in McGee Bay, too. The water north of Green Banks was very clear and holding fish.  The fish were smaller on average than the ones in McGee, but it was steady fishing.  Best flies yesterday were Copper Tigers and the Shaft.

Not too much to report on the perch fishing, because a lot of the perch fisherman have left for the season.  The perch are still hanging on the deep edges of the weeds.  Both shores of McGee Bay are still holding fish.  Crappie jigs tipped with Crappie Nibbles will still get you some fish.  (760) 937-3245;(760) 935-4301
