On Saturday evening my father, my brother and I took a two hour drive South to June Lake, CA. Our objective was to meet with our good friends at the Double Eagle Resort and to catch some fish during the Eastern Sierra Opener in Mono County. The drive South from Northern Nevada is a breeze. We arrived in June Lake, CA around 7:15 PM on Saturday. We went down to Ernie's Tackle to find out what was working today. When we got there we found out they were doing the awards for the 2007 Monster Trout Contest. I believe the largest fish was in the 8 pound range. Please stay tuned as we will post a complete report with all the results from the Monster Trout Contest.

In the morning with had breakfast with Ron and Connie Black the owners of the Double Eagle Resort & Spa. As always, it is a pleasure to visit with them and catch up on the local news. We also returned to Ernie's Tackle to get some fresh leadcore line on my trolling outfits. Whew! Now it's time to go fishing.

We hooked up the boat and headed to Bridgeport Reservoir. We launched the boat around 2 PM. The wind was up. Not quite white caps but enough wind to make it uncomfortable. The water temperatures varied. The water temps over by Rainbow Point were slightly above 55 degrees. Along the East Walker River drainage on the East side of the lake the water temps were a little lower at 53 degress. We started trolling and the first fish was caught by father, Mike Woods. It was a beautiful Cutthroat Trout. He caught it using a leach pattern fly by Marvel Flies. Next was my brother Keith. He switched to the leach pattern too. He caught a beautiful Rainbow Trout. OK. I guess I will switch to the leach too. Nothing. I decided to head back to the boat ramp and along the way. WHAM! Nice Rainbow on the leach pattern fly. We were fishing between 1.5 and 3 colors depending on the reservoir depth.

This was a very special fishing trip for me as I have not fished with my father for a long time. My father, my brother and I fished the Eastern Sierra Opener Religiously for many many years. But recently we have not fished all together. In addition, this was the first time I fished with my brother since he had his fight with cancer. Keith won the battle and we are fishing together again. This was very important to me. Fishing is my life and for me to be able to fish with my family makes me very happy. Thanks Keith and Dad for the fun day!

Totals:
2 hours
3 fish

Sizes:
Mike Woods (Cutthroat Trout) 1.3 pounds
Keith Woods (Rainbow Trout) 1.7 pounds
Chad Woods (Rainbow Trout) 2.0 pounds
