The Little Truckee has been fishing very well and the word seems to be out as this river has seen an increase in anglers over the last few weeks. With the higher than average flows for this time of year we’ve seen great nymph fishing throughout the day and a fairly consistent hatch of BWO’s mid-day. For nymphs we’ve been doing best primarily on baetis in sizes 18-22, and other staples this time of year will be midges in #20-22, and of course worms and eggs. As we come into the height of the brown trout spawn, please continue to keep an eye out for spawning fish and their redds. Due to this being a tailwater, the water temps will not fluctuate quite as much throughout the day, meaning the fish will remain active all day, sunrise to sunset, and often times being either the first one on the water or the last one off the water can give you an advantage out here.
