Rose dramatically to 37 percent of capacity

After recent rains Castaic Lake rose dramatically to 37 percent of capacity, and the surface has been cluttered with debris. Bass anglers reported tough conditions with heavy rain and wind, but the bass still went for drop shot and Ned rigs in 15 to 30 feet of water. Conditions were better suited to reaction bait fishing, but crankbaits and jerkbaits weren’t as productive as bass anglers would have hoped. Swimbait anglers continued to fool both bass and striper using Huddleston’s, triple trout, and large topwater lures near the marina. Striper anglers also used cut baits and trolled umbrella rigs to land decent numbers of striper. Trout anglers reported large schools of trout in the marina, and limits seem to be normal. Dough baits, minijigs, Mousetails, and lures all worked for bites. Catfishing has been slow at Castaic, and most of the whisker fish anglers have been going to Pyramid instead.
