Castaic Lake fell to 32 percent of capacity, and water temperatures have been near 81 degrees. Bass fishing has been solid for anglers who followed the bass into deeper water. Bass have been holding on main lake points and bluff wall in 15 to 25 feet of water. Topwater and finesse baits continue to be the best bets for bites. Small poppers and walking baits have been working first thing in the morning with anglers switching over to finesse options mid-morning. Drop shot, Carolina rigs, and Ned rigs are all working for bites with Green Pumpkin, Watermelon, Hologram Shad, and Ox Blood being the colors of choice. Striper anglers have been having a field day on the smaller grade fish. Trolling flies, jerkbaits, and spoons have all been effective throughout the lake. Kastmaster and topwater have been working when the striper push a shad school to the surface. Bait anglers reported doing well in 25 to 60 feet of water using cut sardines or anchovies. Catfish anglers had a decent bite using cut baits, dip bait, and chicken liver in deeper coves around the lake.
