I don't know how or why, but tropical storm Lowell took a turn from Mag Bay and headed south, winding up right on top of Cabo San Lucas. Today, 9/ll/08, was the first open day of the Port of Cabo San Lucas since Sunday, a long, 3-day closure that resulted from the lingering effects of Lowell which dumped a great deal of rain throughout the area and making the streets muddy and messy. High boat for billfish was the "Fish Cabo 1", releasing 6 bilfish for two fishing days, followed by the "Tuna Time", releasing 5 stripers for a single day. Overall fish counts for the Gaviota Fleet & Fish Cabo Fleet for a combined total of 17 fishing days, reflected 14 stripers released, 1 sailfish released, 31 yellowfin tuna and 79 dorado. Now that the storm has passed by, look for the fishing to get right back to the normal bite, especially on the Pacific side of Cabo.

Cabo Climate: Lots of rain and tropical winds from Lowell and now, the cleanup has started. Still mostly cloudy conditions, temps from 73 nights to 95 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Port closed for 3 days, September 8-9-10, but back open this morning with no rain and no wind.

Best Fishing Area: The Golden Gate has been the "hot spot" prior to the port closures and I believe it will rebound there today and tomorrow, especially since the mackerel had been accumulating on the bank.

Best Lure/Bait: Some of the billfish being taken on the lures, especially in the dorado and mackerel colors, but live bait has been the prime ammunition. Dorado snapping at the lures, too and a live bait drop-back has been very effective for an additional bite.

Live Bait Supply: Mostly caballitos and an opportunity to replenish the supply with mackerel, once at the Golden Gate Bank.
