Mammoth Lakes, CA Troutstock Eastern Sierra is an unprecedented Festival of All-Things Trout being held this Labor Day Weekend August 28 thru September 1, 2008. This year, event organizers have programmed several fun activities just for kids aptly named Kidstock.

At Kidstock, children can catch their first fish at the kid's trout pond, participate in the kids T-shirt painting contest hosted by Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra, learn how to cast from the Department of Fish and Game, join in on the rubber fish races, and sign up for the Fishing Passport Legacy Challenge.

"At Troutstock Eastern Sierra, we believe a day fishing with your kids is a great way to learn new skills, have fun, and re-connect with our great outdoors. Kidstock grows each year, much like our young enthusiasts, and we hope our aspiring anglers and their families will enjoy their weekend partaking in the weekend's activities," commented Danna Stroud, Tourism and Recreation Director.

The casting elimination contest is open to kids 15 years of age or younger and to register for the event children must participate in a Kayak Demo or Float Tube Demo. All youth anglers registered to compete in the tagged trout competition are also eligible to register. The first place winner will receive a Mini-X Malibu Kayak, and the second place winner will receive a Float Tube from Outcast Boats.

The kids T-shirt painting contest is hosted once again by Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra. Try your hand at painting a fish themed t-shirt! All kids 15 years and under are eligible to enter a shirt into the contest. This activity is a fundraiser for Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra, and the winner will receive $200 in cash, and their creation will be featured on the 2009 Troutstock Eastern Sierra Event T-shirt.

Kayak and Float Tube Demonstrations will take place at Horseshoe Lake and Convict Lake. Demonstrations are sponsored by Malibu Kayaks, Outcast Boats, Mammoth Kayaks and The Troutfitter. Kids will have a chance to try out a kayak or float tube FREE at the Troutstock Festival. Kids 15 or under who participate in a demonstration will be eligible to compete in the Kidstock Casting Competition.

Aspiring anglers can catch their first fish at the kid's trout pond. Kids can take home or release a Rainbow Trout from Alpers Trout Hatcheries, receive a commemorative photo with your fish from United Anglers of Southern California, and have a chance to win prizes from Eagle Claw Fishing Tackle and McDonalds. There will also be rubber fish races at the pond waterfall to benefit the Mammoth High School Soccer Team.

"Finding Nemo" is sponsored by The Village at Mammoth starting at 8:00 p.m. The Kids Fishing Games scheduled before the movie are sponsored by Ben & Jerry's.

Troutstock Eastern Sierra 2008 is produced by The Town of Mammoth Lakes Tourism & Recreation Department, in partnership with the June Lake Chamber of Commerce, Convict Lake Resort, The Village at Mammoth, The California Department of Fish and Game, and the California Fishing Passport Program.
