Things Sure Have Changed in the Last Week.

Temps have finally cooled and we are having highs in the 70’s in Tahoe. I needed this and so did the trouts.
Lows have been in the 30’s in the Hirsch, the heater is kicking on in the house in the mornings, fall is near.
With the drops in temps its obviously cooled water temps. That has made the fishing very inconsistent this last week on the CA side.  Seems trouts can’t figure out what kinda water to hold in.  Slow, fast..You just have to fish all the water and crack the code.  Try a few different rigs in a few different water types.  Crayfish are a big part of the diet right now.  I think some fish are full of crayfish and care little about your hares ear drifting by.
I just got done with a float on the lower Truckee River through the Nature Conservancy in Nevada.  I try to stay away most of the summer when the waters warm.  It was really good and I’m pretty excited about the fall fishing down there.  The rainbows are getting up into the 20 inch range again.  They grow big down there in the desert.  We all know how big the browns are.  Still hot after about noon down there so don’t stress those fish if you don’t have to.  I have a Masters Guide license in Nevada and have been floating it since the inception of The Nature Conservancy.  Actually before that too.  The Nature Conservancy has spent 25 million dollars on restoration, restoring the river to it’s original channel and adding trout habitat.  Pretty cool all the wildlife and the big cottonwoods and things down there.  So if you want to check it out, give me a holler, you’ll be in good hands.  It fishes well all winter long, weather depending.
Still thinking about when to do the Advanced Fly Fishing School. It’s looking like maybe the last weekend in October.
