Here is not what I want you to do, but what you MUST do. I have not asked for your help on this until now, but now is the time, and without your support all the work to get to this point will be in vain. Next week, the Governor's Blue Ribbon Task Force will be recommending a network of Marine Protected Areas for the North Central Coast. We need your help to make sure coastal recreators' voices are heard in support of local fisheries populations, most specifically groundfish (rockfish) and roundfish (lingcod, cabezone, greenling), the very species that will benefit the most from MPAs.
As you may know, California is developing a statewide network of marine protected areas to protect special places along our coast and help species recover. The process was successfully completed on the central coast last year. Now three proposals developed by local stakeholders are being considered for the North Central Coast, which extends from San Mateo County to Mendocino County. The Golden Gate Fisherman's Association as well as the Coast Side Fishing Club as well as myself support Proposal 2-XA as designed to enhance local fisheries populations, most specifically groundfish (rockfish) and roundfish (lingcod, cabezone, greenling), the very species that will benefit the most from MPAs. It is also best for socio-economic impacts on our costal community which has been devastated by the salmon closures and the Rockfish Conservation areas.

Send a different letter everyday so they don't classify them as form letters. Proposal 2-XA provides HIGHER protection than Proposals 1/3 & 4 without the excessive restrictions of the other proposals.

The decision meeting will be taking place on April 22-23 in San Rafael, with public comment taking place on the afternoon of April 22 (Earth Day) after agenda item #6. If you can attend, either for the whole day or just a few hours, it will have a big impact.
