Camp Far West Fishing Report

My buddy Steven and I hit Camp Far for a little fun day fishing. The lake did not disappoint. I was surprised to see the lake had risen to a level that allowed us to launch off the ramp. I thought we would be going off the dirt ramp and a much lower lake level. We made a short run up the Rock Creek arm and went to the back of the large cove along the road leading to Spenceville. My graph on the console is hit or miss on working properly so we got over the center of the creek channel and dropped 3 inch Berkley Gulp minnows in the Smelt color on 1/8oz. jigs with 6# line and started hooking fish within minutes. The fish were all small ¼ to ½ pound in size. The bite shut down quickly so we pulled up and moved to Quarter Mile cove and dropped down in the back third of the cove in the middle (again my graph was not reading at all) and started fishing. After a little while my front graph picked up schools of bait fish in the 20 to 30 ft. range and fish actively feeding thru the bait. Fish on! We caught fish for the next hour in the ¼ to 2 ½ pound range. My graph on the console finally started to get working so we made some runs around the lake looking for bait and schools of fish. We picked up a couple fish off a few points but didn’t see any bait shallower than 60’ so we went back to Quarter Mile cove and fished the middle to back half till 4 p.m.. Together we had a 30+ fish day. All small fish, but Camp Far West spots pull light line like a 5lb. largemouth. Just plain fun fishing! The water temp was 57-58 deg. all day and a the visibility was about 3ft. average. Thank you for checking in with RBBass and please visit our sponsor sites on our home page for awesome deals. Hope to meet you on the water sometime! Bob Pietruszka.
