The Fishing on Silver Lake blew up like a Whistling Pete Rocket this past week thanks to a load of DFW catchables and two loads of Desert Springs Monster Rainbows, one load provided by Mono County Tourism and the second load purchased by Silver Lake Resort for all to catch and enjoy. The weather continues to stay warm this week which also is helping with the increased fishing and catching activity on Silver Lake. The water levels on Silver Lake continue to stay high as both Rush and Alger Creeks continue to dump lots of water from that high mountain snow we still have into the lake. We easily saw 20 plus Rainbows brought in this past week weighing in over 2 pounds but this weeks fishing report is all about the kids who caught some big ones this week. Summer is upon us and schools are all out so lets celebrate the kids and the fun and excitement that goes not only with catching big fish but also the fun and excitement that goes with the Fourth of July. Anglers saw some great results this past week with some of the staples that always do well on Silver Lake. Night Crawlers early and late in the morning and evening, with Berkley Power Baits with Glitter and Garlic during the heat of the day. If you like to troll and use lead core line look to start to take things a little deeper as the water starts to warm up, try going about 4 to 41/2 colors deep using a flasher followed by a Rapala or a Tasmanian Devil with some pink or red. In the early mornings and late afternoon look to bring that trolling rig closer to the surface and think about using some streamers like a #8 Rainbow Hornberg, #8 Olive Matuka with a Red Gil and some #8 Green Wooly Buggers. As the shadows start to hit the water those big Rainbows will be looking towards the surface for something good to eat. Rush Creek has also slowly started to pick up in the caching category this past week as bait fishermen have done well using Night Crawlers and Salmon Eggs and the bug hatch is still very strong. Look to use a dry fly like a #16 Mosquito, a #18 Yellow Sally or a #16 Elk’s Hare Caddis just to name a few dry flies that are working. The bottom line is that the fishing is strong, the weather is perfect and the views here at Silver Lake and throughout all of Mono County and the Eastern Sierras are amazingly breath taking, so come on up and enjoy all that Mono County and the June Lake Loop have to offer.

Happy Fishing and We Will See You at The Lake!!!

Fish of the Week:

Kaydee Tani of Torrance hauled in this massive 5 pound 7 ounce Rainbow fishing from the shore of Silver Lake using Rainbow Power Bait. Way to Go Kaydee. The Biggest fish caught at Silver Lake this past week!!! Proof that experience isn’t always needed to catch the big ones. Just patience and a little luck !!!

Just like “Big Fish Bob” always says:

“Patience is a Virtue and Every Once in a While you Will Catch a Big One!!”

Bob even had his hands on some big ones this week!!!
