We are pleased to announce that the road construction at Convict Lake has been completed. We are excited to have the new road and all of the other improvements including a wider road, a bike lane, new signage and the trail and retaining walls at the south end of the lake.

We want to convey our gratitude and a huge thank you to the Federal Highway Administration , the U.S. Forest Service, the Mono County Department of Public Works and all of the contractors who did a super job in getting this done quickly and with minimal inconvenience to everyone.

Catch of the Week: John Rodarte from Los Angeles, CA with a fat 7 pound 5 ounce Rainbow. He caught this monster with a Thomas Buoyant while fishing along the South Shore.

Other notable catches this week:

Tim Harding from Orange County, CA landed a stout 6 pound 5 ounce Rainbow while fishing the South Shore near the marina. Tim hooked this beast with a Tasmanian Devil.

Darrin Heindel from Bakerfield, CA catch a nice Rainbow with Green Powerbait. Darrin landed this 5 pound 6 ounce Rainbow at "the big log" near the Jetty.

John Lara from Paramount, CA caught two quality fish. The largest was a 4 pounder and the other was 3 pounds. John was using a Gulp Worm and was fishing the South Shore.

Rod Shimamoto from Reseda, CA also landed two quality fish. His largest was a 4 pound Rainbow. The second was a 3 pounder. Rod was using Nightcrawlers and was fishing the Handicap Pier.

Tactics/Bait: Inflated Nightcrawlers and Powerbait were the top baits this week. The top Powerbait colors were yellow and green. Some of the most productive lures were Thomas Buoyants, Tasmanian Devils and Gulp Worms. The top colors for the lure/jigs were red, orange and pink. The "Catch of the Week" was caught with a Thomas Buoyant at the South Shore. The other hot location this week was the North Shore. Alternative locations to try would be the Inlet, Jetty/Outlet Area and Hangman's Tree.

Here is a list of other baits/lures that can be productive:

Sierra Slammers, Tasmanian Devil, green or brown Marvel Flies , Trout Teasers, Panther Martin, NeedleFish, Rooster Tails, and Bite-On Fury Shad on Powerbait.

I would suggest using some type of added attractant. Pro-Cure, Bite-On, Lip Ripperz and Berkley all make excellent attractants, which are sold at the general store.

Here is a list of recommended flies:

Dry Flies: Adams, Female Adams, Cutter's Caddis, Elk Hair Caddis, Stimulators, Black/Red Ants, Sierra Bright Dot, Royal Coachman and Hoppers.

Streamers: Wooly Bugger (black, brown, olive, or green), Mutuka (black, brown, olive, or green), Hornberg, and Muddler Minnows.

Wet Flies(Nymphs): Prince Nymph, Flashback Pheasant Tail, Hare's Ear, Zebra Midge (red and black), Copper John (red and copper) and San Juan Worm (brown or red).

Weather: First snow this winter at the resort's elevation expect Sunday Night into Monday. The high temps for the start of next week will be in the high-30's and the lows in the low-20's.

Sunrise - Sunset: Remember daylight saving ends this weekend. Set you clocks back one hour tonight. Sunrise this week 7:19am - 6:00am and Sunset 6:00pm - 4:54pm.
