Santa Margarita Lake - CA (San Luis Obispo County)

Water temperature is 80F. Crappie still biting mini jigs in the White Oak area,some anglers reporting as many as 15 slabs a piece. Bass fishing has been fair to good on a variety of baits. Frogs, jigs, flukes, and senkos all caught fish to 6lbs this past week. Windy days have been the most productive. Fly-lining cut mackerel resulted in some nice catches of the larger blue cats, as well as some channels, and bullheads. Once again, White Oak was the best area for the whiskerfish. Both bluegill, and red ear took the week off.

The crappie bit was as hot as the air temps last week, and those willing to brave the heat were rewarded with some outstanding fishing for slabs to 2.5lbs. The water temperature was 79 F. The bass bite heated up last week with some of the lakes larger fish going on the chew. Fish to 8.5 lbs were reported as well as solid numbers of fish in the 2lb to 4lb range. Jigs, crankbaits, senkos, as well as poppers, and frogs all hot bit.
