The often discussed and proposed closure of the Sacramento River from Keswick Dam to the Highway 44 Bridge in Redding to fishing has taken effect over this last weekend. Wardens have begun enforcing the closure that will remain in effect until August 1.

The closure will become an annual closure from April 1 thru August 1 according to reports, and is designed to protect the natural spawning grounds of the endangered winter run salmon. Trout fishing had been strong throughout the system and continues to provide ample angling opportunities downstream of the closure. Many guides  and boaters will now launch at either the Bonneyview Ramp or at the Park Marina Ramp for immediate angling access.
