The East is still running around 340 cfs today though I’ve been hearing rumors it’s going to be going up pretty soon in anticipation of the run-off starting. We’ll just have to keep our eyes on that as it can change day by day. The fishing is tough down there with this flow but there are some very nice fish being caught. The anglers who are having the most success are doing so mostly with nymphs and a few on streamers. There are decent numbers of fish in the 18 to 22 inch range being caught. The Nevada side is kicking out quite a few nice rainbows in the 12 to 16 inch range as well. The water is still pretty cold so gear up for your time in waders to stay warm. One of the keys to being successful down there right now is to use sufficient weight to get your bugs down near the bottom, you need to get your flies where the fish are lying, which is basically on the bottom. There are some stoneflies starting to pop down on the Nevada side so keep that in mind when selecting flies. Some patterns to try include: zebra midge, copper john, san juan worm, prince nymph, wd-40, pheasant tail, dark lord, micro stone, poxyback stone, zuddler, sculpzilla, double bunny.
