I Slipped out of the house one afternoon to drop a line into Hat Creek. Even though the general trout season has several weeks remaining in the 2016 season, I had to fish the Hat before the season closed.

Traveling along Hwy 89, only one public campground was open. Cave Campground with only a few campers in the campground taking advantage of the almost non-existent crowds. If you decide to camp and fish at Hat creek there’s plenty of room at Cave Campground, as well as several private campgrounds in the area. Rim Rock Ranch and Rancheria RV Park come to mind. Look them up on the web.

With no fishing pressure, I hooked up on several brook trout; one fish was a 3 pound hen full of eggs. I released her and a smaller brook trout while fishing the tail-out of the hole. Nice day, even though I wasn't fishing from my Outback. Hope to see you OTW.
