Camp Far West Fishing Report

Looking for a fun day fishing? Head for Camp Far West. The lake is very low but you can still launch a boat off the old service road. No dock so you’ll have to pick up your partner from the shore and it is a bit muddy. But the fish are schooled up and ready for the catching. Water temp. was 45 deg. with about 2 ft. of visibility. I started with a 3/8 oz. Spintrix jig from Blade Runner Tackle with a Keitech 4.8 Swing Impact Fat trailer. My buddy tossed a brown 3/8 oz. jig with a green pumpkin trailer. I had a lot of short strikes on the bigger bait while both spots and largemouth ate up the jig. I pulled out a drop shot rod with 6lb. test and tied on a ¼ oz. ball head jig with a Berkley Gulp Minnow in the Smelt color. Every drop on a school that I saw on the graph produced numerous fish. Most of the fish are small but a blast to catch on the light line. Found most of the fish off points near deep water and the back of coves. Thanks for checking in with RBBass and best of luck on your next trip. Bob Pietruszka.
