We can always use more rain for our local streams, but recent weather has allowed a good number of steelhead into our systems. Local anglers are once again enjoying stream fishing for steelhead. Ernie Kinzli at Ernie's Casting Pond in Soquel reported on Tuesday an additional inch of rain with good color in the San Lorenzo water and six inches of visibility. A few steelies were reported caught (and released) last week, but not in the numbers that conditions seem to warrant. Kinzli says there a definitely fish in the river, and they are likely "on the move," and difficult to locate at this time.

According to Harrison Ibach from Mad River Outfitters in Arcata, every one of the North Coast Rivers has been producing this week. Ibach prefers fishing the Mad River where he caught and released a beautiful 15-pound wild buck steelie this week. He predicts the rivers will likely be blown out for the weekend, however, due to a storm front due to hit Northern California today. Once that storm moves through, good fishing will resume on the North Coast.
