Dead Sea

Eagle Lake is the "Dead Sea" this season. The few trout we have left are scattered & in small groups. Food taking over the lake & not enough trout to eat it since our reduction in planting the last few years is finally taking its toll. Even fly fishing has been slow. just not a lot of trout to be found. Should see hundreds rising to the hatch...lucky to see 10 rise in 2 miles during the hatch, let alone 8 miles of trolling. Those rising are shakers...this year's plants 8-10" long. It isn't that the trout not feeding, the ones I have caught are stuffed. it's that their numbers are all screwed up. Period. Tui chub biting just fine & foul hooking a ton when dragging lines thru them. Zooplankton so thick it's like trolling thru jello, gums up your lines, lures & flies in every location. Algae inundating the west side...plugged up my kicker today. Want limits of Eagle Lake trout?... Go somewhere else or waste your money coming here for 2 fish per week per rod! Obviously this lake has a serious problem this year... denied by DFW. Proof is in the facts...ask for their creel report. They cut our planting down way too much over the last few years to keep people coming. Perhaps it's time to give Eagle Lake a rest or acquire a taste for Eagle Lake tui chub.
