There was a cut in the heat this week from 106 down in to the low 90’s high 80’s and everybody has been loving it! The water is still in the upper 70’s so the catfish are still on the bite. Once again the fish are favoring Anchovies above all other cut baits. The Striped Bass have stopped boiling in the morning now its more like isolated blow ups, but they have begun boiling in the afternoons around 11am – 3pm. So if you like to see or fish the boils I recommend coming in the afternoons. When fishing the boils it is important to use either top water lures or jerk baits. Remember that you are trying to imitate a Thread Fin Shad.

The Catfish are still hanging out in or around the big weed mats either in the back of coves or on the sandy/muddy flats. I also like to fish big rocky drop off’s and points where there are no weed beds. I fish these areas because bigger fish need more oxygen and deeper colder water holds more oxygen but, the Cats can swim right up those points in to the feeding grounds, eat a little then retreat back in to the depths. I love Catfishing to its core, from the heart stopping hits to long drawn out fights. In my opinion Catfish are one of the hardest fighting fish in this lake besides the Big Striped Bass or Sturgeon. Be aware of the spines in the dorsal and pectoral fins when landing these whisker fish. Good luck everybody now go rip some lips.

Anglers of the week.
Carlos Cazares and Anthony Gonzales of Hayward caught a 5.5 lb Catfish on Liver. Geroge an Chris Phillps of Monteray caught a 9lb Catfish and a 5lb Largemouth the Largemouth was successfully released at the Public Launch ramp.

Noah of Hayward caught a 9.5lb Catfish on Anchovies in Swallow Bay.

One freaky storm passed through the canyon yesterday and all the surrounding areas. Wind, clouds, rain, thunder and lightening lit up the night sky. As beautiful as the storm may have been, it shut off the fish completely! Earlier this week fishermen annihilated the striped bass on Anchovies and other cut baits. Other anglers were catching fish on Jerkbaits like Lucky Crafts Pointers, Yo-Zuri Delta Minnows, and Mega Bass Jerks. They were also catching them on top water...... Read More
