The best bite has been the early one, after that, we have been working for them, but still getting them. Friday the trout were eager biters well into the morning. I heard reports that some folks couldn’t make these fish bite and that perhaps, the smoky skies had something to do with it. Well, yes, it can change the way the fish see a lure. It is also about finding the depth that the fish are active & the speed you are traveling, no matter where you scope them. Not every fish on the scope is a trout either. Today my EARLY trolling action came on plain olive wooly buggers and 3 inch plain olive grubs around 15 ft deep over 18 to 35ft of water off the west side. Watermelon not getting the attention that a plain olive is, but has enticed a few strikes. I also had a few half hearted strikes at 6 to 7 ft deep. Once the sun has been on the water for a short while, I dropped my lines down to 21 to 24ft deep & found a great bite off Lake of the Woods over 30-47ft of water & closer to Shrimp Island and working the deepest ledges between 30 and 40ft. Basically, 4 to 6 colors of 18lb leadcore at 2-2.4 mph. The east side trout starting out around 21 & as deep as 28-32ft deep depending on conditions of the day. Leadcore between 4 and 6 colors will find the fish when they come on. www.eaglelakefishing.net

The best bite has been the early one, after that, we have been working for them, but still getting them. Once the sun has been on the water for a short while, the lake has been fishing tough for the average angler. Every day has differed somewhat. On tough days I have gone to very passive trolling flies such as dark brown leeches and tui chub minnow patterns and trolled slow bouncing the bottom in 15 to 25 feet...... Read More

The bait fishing bite is slowly beginning to show up off Eagle’s Nest and the Springs has a few trout milling around now, too. On warm, bright, sunny days and flat water when the trout lay low & out of the sun, bait fishing can do pretty well. The deepest trout we have caught was around 32feet deep. Most all our nice solid trout are still coming from 18 to 25 feet. Freelining and slip bobbers are...... Read More
