The fishing in Southern California is setting up to be the BEST EVER! On July 13, 2015 Captain Brian Castleton and his friend Eric Weidele completed a two month quest. Brian works on the New Seaforth out of Seaforth Landing and has a busy schedule working. When the weather cooperated he searched for Giant Bluefin Tuna in local waters. Finally the dream became a reality. On July 11th we got a phone call from Captain Aaron Barnhill aboard the Shogun. He told us that there was a large school of jumbo Bluefin in local waters. We can thank the spotter plane for the intel. Finding and spearing one of these fish is like catching a 300 pounder on an 18 day trip. It is a lifetime quest. Captain Brian said, “I jumped in the water four times! Two times I saw fish. They appeared to be between 80 and 100 pounds.” The last time in the water Brian and Eric speared 181 and 185 pound Bluefin Tuna. “We saw hundreds of these fish and one finally swam directly towards me,” said Brian.
